The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornamentation on the dress accessories, armour, horse livery and weapons and the clothing is of silk. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and stuck onto card handcoloured with background scenery. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home. Coloured and sold wholesale and retail by Redington and King. Prints of allegorical characters were produced for tinselling following the popularity of theatrical tinsel portraits.
