Theatrical portrait, album
Bound volume of copper engraved prints, engraved by John Lewis Marks. Handwritten inscription inside reads '1d Plain 2d Coloured the work of John Lewis Marks. Engraver, + a follow worker with Geo. Cruikshank', 1830-40. The album includes full sheet theatrical portraits - coloured and uncoloured, and miniature portraits, 4 or 6 to one sheet - coloured and uncoloured. Also included are examples of Mark's satirical engravings produced as part of a series entitled 'The Boys Own Caricature or Innocent Recreations for Youth, 6 Bellman's verses broadsides - both coloured and uncoloured with a blank centre with depictions of the Nativity, Scenes from the life of Christ and the Crucifixion, general subject matter engravings such as 'Poachers Detected', 'Intemperance & Misery'. and historical subject matter including battle scenes from the Napoleonic Wars.
