Printed Ephemera — 1899
Failure is Impossible!
Postcard with photographic portrait of Susan B. Anthony and the slogan 'Failure is impossible!'.
The card was published by FKPR, the Swedish Society for Women's Suffrage. It was sent from Stockholm and is postmarked 13 June 1899. On the back is a handwritten message to Miss L H Thompson which reads:
'Mrs. Anthony's niece (Miss Lucy Anthony) who lives with Dr. Shaw is here at the Congress but she is not a speaker. We travelled to Stockholm with Mrs. Corbett Ashby (Mrs. Margery Corbett) – she was very glad to find herself not quite (underlined) alone. The crossing was rather trying and we, or at least I, had practically no sleep till Mon night here. So you can imagine how good our beds seemed. It is cold & rather wet but nothing discourages the suffragists. The Congress Hall resembles a parrot house at times! Mrs. Chapman Catt is as staunch and splendid as ever.'
Carrie Chapman Catt succeeded Susan B. Anthony as as head of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA).
