Social History — 1826-1890
Fire mark
Fire marks were placed on the outside of buildings to indicate that the property was insured by a specific company. This mark was issued by the Salop Fire Office founded in Shrewsbury in 1780 to provide insurance in Shropshire and surrounding counties. The company's emblem of three leopards' heads was based on the arms of Shrewsbury.
