Tankard
This tankard was found in Fullwoods Rents, a small alley near Gray's Inn, Holborn. The area had a large Irish community and the engraved harp suggests it may have been owned and used by an irishman. In 1855, George Timbs described the area as 'meanly inhabited' and many of its 17th century houses would have been in poor condition. There were a number of taverns in the area, including the Castle kept by Tom Spring, the pugilist.
