Prehistoric — Iron Age
Dagger, sheath
Fragile fragment of dagger sheath comprising two pieces of yew bound by two narrow bronze bands placed 50 mm apart. Iron dagger blade in centre. Bands decorated with bordering ribs and dot-and-circle ornament along front and back, embossed from one die. Each band is joined at the back by a bronze nail. The iron blade can be seen in cross-section, with a slight midrib. The wood surface was perhaps originally painted.
