Printed Ephemera — C. 1861
Card, trade card
Engraved trade card publicising the box manufacturing business of R. Hobbs located at 7 Windmill Row, Kennington Green. The engraved script notes that R Hobbs manufactured wood and millboard boxes used as packaging for drapery including shawls, ribbons, gloves, lace, flowers, velvets and blondes. Such trade cards would have been pasted on the inside of the boxes manufactured by the firm. The card includes an engraving of the Royal Coat of Arms in recognition of the firm's patronage by HRH the late Duchess of Kent, the mother of Queen Victoria who died in 1861. As the card refers to the 'late Duchess of Kent' is can be dated to around 1861.
