Porringer, tableware
A porringer with a single ear of trefoil form and geometric piercing. The central boss in the base of the bouged bowl is accentuated by turned concentric circles. There is a touch mark underneath the ear of a fleur-de-lys surrounded by the legend ‘ASH & HUTTON’ for the partnership of Ash & Hutton, Bristol OP118. Gregory Ash, OP117, who was free in Bristol in 1741 and William Hutton, OP2495, who was free in Bristol in 1739 joined forces in the 1760s. Hutton died in 1768. Date: c.1760-68
