Grand Bal Masque
'Gentleman's admission ticket for a benefit 'Grand Bal Masque' to be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on Wednesday September 6th 1854 'for the benefit of the Italian Brothers'. The ticket is printed in red on cream card and includes a red wax seal a handwritten number '1240', a signature of the holder and the admission price 'Half a Guinea'.
The "Italian Brothers" may refer to the trapeze act of that name. In 1854 the Italian Brothers were to perform a trapeze act at Vauxhall Gardens suspended beneath the car of a balloon, but it was prohibited by the Commissioners of Police by direction of the Home Secretary because of the perilous nature of the stunt.
