Fashion — C. 1760
Shoe
This pair of woman's shoes is covered in moss green silk, set off by a white kid rand from around 1760. The edges are trimmed with a matching silk ribbon. There is evidence that braid once decorated the shoes down the front and around the heel. A pair of cut-steel buckles came with the shoes and fastened the latchet straps at the front. There are signs of outside wear on the leather sole. It curves down the front of the heel to create the 'Louis' style typical of heeled shoes in the eighteenth century.
