Old Houses In Gray's Inn Lane
Old houses in Gray's Inn Lane, 1878. Gray's Inn Lane, now Gray's Inn Road, was described in 1878 as a narrow, dingy thoroughfare and an impediment to traffic. This group of 17th century houses was photographed on behalf of the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London to form part of a permanent record of historic buildings threatened with alteration or possible demolition in the 1870s and 1880s. The houses were demolished as part of a road widening scheme shortly after the photograph was taken
