The lion and the dog fight
Broadsheet satire which combines german black letter text with an emblematical and satiric composition with numbered figures which are decoded in the text below. In the foreground a lion (emblematic of the United Provinces) sleeps, soothed by a cello player who represents Spain while Cromwell irritates the lion by tickling his ear while also setting 2 English mastiffs onto him. This satire is a critique of the English aggression. This is a German version of a Dutch broadside which is published under the title 'Der Low und die Hinde Streitten'.
