Old Queen's Head and Artichoke, Regents' Park
The Queen's Head and Artichoke stood in meadows, about 500 yards north of the New Road (Marylebone Road) by the footpath which led to Chalk Farm. It was supposedly started by Queen Elizabeth's gardener and the innboard depicted the Queen. The attractions of the tavern included a skittle ground and tea garden while the surrounding fields were frequently used for fights.
In 1811 the inn was closed for the development of Regent's Park. The Colosseum afterwards occupied part of the site and a new tavern of the same name was built on the east side of Albany Street. In 1814 a fire destroyed the old tavern and many of the surrounding buildings.
