Brooch
'Holloway' brooch presented to the suffragette Margaret Clayton by the Women's Freedom League to commemorate her imprisonment in Holloway Gaol, 1907. The silver brooch depicts in stylised relief the entrance to Holloway prison. An inscription on the reverse reads 'WFL/Margaret S Clayton/Holloway/March 20th/April 13th 1907'.
The Women's Freedom League were the first suffrage organisation to reward imprisoned suffragettes with brooches and badges in recognition of their commitment and sacrifice to the militant cause.
