Printed Ephemera — 1851-1858
Dunmow Flitch of Bacon?
Broadside ballad entitled 'Dunmow Flitch or bacon?' Printed in two columns the words encourage 'lads & lasses' to take part in the annual Dunmow Flitch trials where a flitch of bacon is awarded to a married couple who can swear to not having regretted their marriage for a year and a day. This ballad was published in Ipswich, not far from the Dunmow area in Essex and would probably have been sold in rural fairs held in the Essex and Suffolk area.
