The Turk's Head Coffee House
Abraham Jorden issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business, a coffee house, at the sign of the Turk's Head, behind St Clement's Churchyard. The sign of a Turk's head represented the type of coffee sold within.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2461; Obv inscription: Abraham / Jorden / at.ye / his.½D (in four lines of cursive script with bottom two lines divided by sign, in field) Device = A Turk's head (in field); Rev inscription: behind / St.Clement / Church / 1664 (in four lines of cursive script, in field).
