Universal equinoctial ring dial
Brass ring dial used by seamen to calculate the time of day when at sea. The dial was made by the mathematical and optical instrument maker Joseph Long who established his business in Little Tower Street in 1821. Long's company continued to produce precision instruments at these premises until 1884 when it moved to 43 East Cheap, finally closing in 1936.
