The Virgin Mary
Pilgrim badge of the Virgin Mary. The badge depicts a fleur-de-lys in a circular frame decorated with bosses in circles alternating with pairs of smaller dots. The lily flower was the symbol of purity and innocence and was an emblem of the Virgin Mary (also known as Our Lady). The heraldic form of the lily was the fleur-de-lys and often appears on badges from shrines of the Virgin Mary.
The frame is identical to that on a Canterbury badge, which depicts St Thomas Becket. It is therefore possible that this Virgin Mary version of the badge may have also come from Canterbury and be connected to the cult of Our Lady Undercroft there.
