Archaeology — Medieval; 13th century
Box
This wooden box is made from beech wood. Originally it would have been circular but it has been distorted over time. It is decorated with a single groove near the base and has seating for a lid around the rim. It is now in two pieces. The box was found amongst a group of objects in a rubbish pit behind a medieval house in Milk Street, City of London. In 1276, the house had belonged to Bonamicus, a Jew from York.
