Coulter
Iron plough coulter. Fixed to the wooden beam of an ox-drawn plough, the coulter cut vertically into the soil to start the furrow. One of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury pilgrims was a ploughman 'who had loaded many a cartload of dung'. Found in the City Ditch, Aldersgate Street.
