Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th-15th century
Shoe
Adult size left foot shoe upper with a pointed toe (the tip of which is missing). The sole is missing. The upper is largely in two pieces: a vamp and a one-piece quarters. The vamp is front buckle fastening, although the buckle is now missing. There is an integral strap on one side of the vamp with a bifurcated end which has been folded over and stitched in place. This would have held a metal buckle in place. The fastening strap on the other side was formed by a separate insert and is now missing. The vamp has a plain low cut throat and sides. The quarters have a high back to the heel.
