Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th-15th century
Sheath
Leather knife sheath, now flattened open and in two pieces.Decorated on both front and back with incised foliate motifs and narrow panels of chevrons. The foliage is enhanced with impressed dots, possibly a scrolling vine. There are traces of red paint on the decorated surfaces. There is a side seam with edge/grain stitch holes. There are four suspension slots towards the opposite side to the seam. The sheath has a rather blunt, rounded end.
