Saxon & Medieval — Early Medieval; 13th century
Sheath
Fragment from the front of a leather sheath. Decorated with impressed lines and lozenges and stamped lozenges of a lion rampant. Remains of a side seam (or possibly originally a centre back seam) with flesh/grain stitch holes. The decoration is similar to a sheath illustrated in Cowgill et al (1987125, no. 394) which was found in a late 13th century context in London.
