Sheath
Leather knife sheath. The sheath is decorated with impressed decoration which is divided into two sections, reflecting the handle and the blade areas. The front handle area is divided in half vertically with one half plain and the other with a lozenge continaing a fleur-de-lys. The blade area has two lozenges, one above the other. The lower one contains a fleur-de-lys and the upper one half a triple towered castle and half a fleur-de-lys. These lozenges are framed by semi-quatrefoils. The heraldry on this sheath may refer to the union through marriage of the houses of Toulouse and Poitou (Wilmott in Cowgill et al, 1987, 47-49). The back has a slightly diagonal centre back seam with grain/edge stitch holes. There are four suspension slots at the back, two on either side of the seam.
