Saxon & Medieval — Early Medieval; 13th century
Sheath
Knife sheath; centre back seam with edge/grain stitch holes. Decoration divided into two zones denoting the handle and blade. Back decorated with panels of impressed diagonal lines. Front decorated with impressed zoomorphic designs in the form of a lion passant with stabbed background (handle) and a running beast (dog/leopard?) followed by a small winged beast (dragon?) (blade area). There are four suspension slots on the back.
