Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th century
Patten
Left foot wood patten with a pointed toe. It is made from one piece of wood with three wedges in the toe, tread and heel. The toe end is very worn on the base. There are no traces of any heel straps and only the remains of some very corroded nails - three on each side of the tread. These were probably for wide straps to fasten over the forepart of the foot, but no leather survives.
