The Bird and Wheatsheaf
Hercules Cox, a starch maker, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Lambeth, Surrey.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Surrey number 161; Obv inscription: HERCVLIS.COX.STARCH (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A wheatsheaf and three birds (in field); Rev inscription: MAKER.IN.LAMBETH.69 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / H.E.C. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
