The Black Lion
William Ford issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Black Lion, in Whitechapel, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3407; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. FOORD. AT. YE. BLAK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant (in field); Rev inscription: LYON.IN.WHITE.CHAPELL.68 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / W.M.F. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
