Saxon & Medieval — Medieval
Comb
Fragment from a double-sided comb. This comb has been carved from one piece of horn, and has two separate sets of teeth. One side is broader and more widely spaced than the other. The teeth which are spaced more closely together were more suitable for catching lice. To have properly combed hair was an important way of keeping yourself well-groomed, especially at a time when people did not wash their hair very often.
