The Still
James Price issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Still (a piece of equipment used in the production of alcoholic spirits), in Ratcliffe Highway (now The Highway), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2360; Obv inscription: IAMES.PRICKE.AT.YE.STILL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A still over an oven (in field); Rev inscription: IN.RATCLIEFF.HIGH.WAY.68 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
Ratcliffe Highway (now The Highway), lies in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, having previously been part of Middlesex.
