The Beacon and Crown
John Empson issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Duke's Place, Aldgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 894; Obv inscription: IOHN.EMPSON.1667 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A beacon surmounted by a coronet (in field); Rev inscription: IN.DVKES.PLACE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / I.A.E. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
