The Grocers' Arms
Francis Hardy, a grocer, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Bishopsgate without, Bishopsgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 297; Obv inscription: 1666 / Francis / Hardy / Grocer (in four lines of cursive script, in field); Rev inscription: WITHOVT.BISHOPSGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Grocers' arms (in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Grocers are: Argent a chevron Gules between nine cloves Sable (J.
