Saxon & Medieval — Late-Medieval; 15th century
Dolphin
Secular badge in the form of a dolphin, dated to the 15th century. Dolphins were a symbol of love, diligence and speed. Though French princes had the title of Dauphin and used the symbol of the dolphin, this example is more likely to be associated with an English family or organisation such as the Fishmongers' Company.
