The Tallow Chandlers' Arms
John Tiddler, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his premises in Aldgate within (now Aldgate Street), Aldgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 80; Obv inscription: IOHN.TIDDER.57 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A Tallowchandlers' arms (in field); Rev inscription: WITHIN.ALDGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.A.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers are: On a field of six pieces Azure and ARgent three doves Argent membered Gules, each holding in its beak an olive branch Or (J.
