Gimlet, shipwright's shell gimlet
Gimlet, shipwright's screw nosed shell gimlet. Recovered from the Thames foreshore. A gimlet is a carpenter's hand tool used for boring small holes into wood. Often used by shipwrights it has a screw point with a shell body that allows the wood to move out of the hole.
