Coin, stater
An Iron Age struck gold coin: stater (Gallo-Belgic B type), minted around 150 - 100 BCE. The obverse is obliterated. The reverse has a horse with charioteer on chariot pole.
Coins were introduced to Britain around 150 BCE, the first coins were imported from Gaul (modern France). Shortly after, coins began to be minted in Britain. The patterns used on the coins were heavily inspired by the Continental coins and they also give a glimpse about what was valued within Iron Age communities, such as horses.
