Bead, melon bead
A blue-green glass melon bead with a vitreous glaze and grooved sides.
Glass beads were a popular choice for necklaces and came in many shapes, colours and sizes. The beads were either strung on flax thread or some beads were joined together using copper-alloy chain links. Melon beads were most likely strung on a thick thread or leather thong. Evidence for the making of melon beads has been found on some London sites.
