Coin, antoninianus
A copper alloy radiate coin of Emperor Carausius, ruler of the Romano-British Empire, AD 286-293. Pax, the Roman goddess of peace. This coin was minted in Londinium (modern day London), AD 288-290. Carausius set up a mint to make coins in London, in an effort to be accepted as the Emperor of Britain.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and radiate bust of Carausius, facing right. Obv inscription: [I]MP CARAVSIVS P F AVG. Rev: Pax, standing left, holding a branch in her right hand and a vertical scpetre in the left. Rev inscription: [P]AX AVG, FO in field, ML in exergue (the initials for 'Moneta Londinii', meaning 'the mint of London').
