Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Faustina the Younger, empress to Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180. She was the daughter of Emperor Antoninus Pius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 138-161.This commemorative coin was issued by Marcus Aurelius, after Faustina's death in AD 175. The back of the coin depicts Aeternitas, the female personification of eternity. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 176-180.
Obv: Draped and bare-headed bust of Faustina II, facing right. Obv inscription: DIVA FAVSTINA PIA. Rev: Aeternitas, seated left, holding a phoenix on a globe in her extended right hand and a near vertical sceptre in the left. Rev inscription: [AETERNITAS], S[C] in field.
