Coin, tetradrachm
A silver alloy tetradrachm (a provincial Greek denomination) of Emperor Hadrian, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 117-138. The back of the coin depicts Hadrian and the personification of Alexandria. This coin was minted in Alexandria, Egypt, AD 130-131.
Obv: Draped, laureate bust of Hadrian, facing right. Obv inscription: AVT KAI [TPAI ADPIA CEB]. Rev: The emperor standing left, recieving corn from Alexandria. Alexandria, standing left, holding an elephant skin headdress a short chiton, peplos and kothornoi. Rev inscription: L IE.
