Description

Dress-cuttings book, 1837-44. An employee of Mary Bettans, the Queen's dressmaker in Jermyn Street, filled this exercise book with cuttings of dresses made for Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Kent, Queen Adelaide and Baroness Lehzen. Book covered in blue and cream marbled paper with leather spine and corners. Label inside: "H. NEWMAN PRINTER STATIONER & BOOKBINDER,/ 14 High Street,/ Gravesend. Contains 24 pages (i.e. 48 sides) containing scraps of fabric pinned to the pages and notes handwritten in ink. See also 80.424/2 Dressmaker's card and 80.424/3, paper pattern.
