Coin, radiate
A silver radiate coin of Valerian II. Valerian ruled as Caesar (Crown Prince) under his grandfather Valerian, and his father Gallienus, AD 253-258. The back of the coin depicts Jupiter, king of the Roman gods. This coin was minted in Gaul, AD 253-255.
Obv: Draped and radiate bust of Valerian II, facing right. Obv inscription: VALERIANVS CAES. Rev: The infant Jupiter, seated on the back of the goat Amalthea, looking left, with his right hand raised and his left hand holding onto the goat’s horn. Rev inscription: IOVI CRESCENTI.
