Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Philip II. Philip was appointed Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Philip I, in AD 244. He was elevated to the position of Augustus and co-ruler, AD 247-249. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 244-246.
Obv: Draped, bare-headed bust of Philip II, facing right. Obv inscription: M IVL PHILIPPVS CAES. Rev: Philip II standing left, holding a globe in his right hand and a vertical spear in his left. Rev inscription: PRINCIPI IVVENT, SC in field.
