Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Gordian III, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 238-244. The back of the coin depicts Concordia, the Roman goddess of understanding and marital harmony. This coin was minted in Rome, AD 240.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and laureate bust of Gordian III, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG. Rev: Concordia, enthroned left, holding a patera (dish) in her right hand and a double cornucopia in the left. Rev inscription: CONCORDIA MILIT, SC in exergue.
