Social History — 1996
Badge
The 'red ribbon' campaign began in 1991 and was created by the New York-based Visual AIDS Artists Caucus, a group of artists who wanted to create a visual symbol to show compassion for those living with AIDS and their caregivers. The red ribbon is a symbol of remembrance for all those infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS and marks the wearer's awareness of AIDS and HIV.
