Coin, as
A copper alloy as coin of Commodus. Commodus ruled as co-emperor alongside his father, Marcus Aurelius, AD 177-180. Following his father’s death in AD 180, Commodus became sole ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 180-192. The back of the coin depicts Roma, the female personification of Rome. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 183.
Obv: Draped and laureate bust of Commodus, facing right. Obv inscription: M COMMODVS [ANTO]NINVS AVG. Rev: Roma, in military dress, standing front, head left, holding Victory in her extended right hand and a reversed, vertical spear in the left. Rev inscription: TR P VIII IMP V [COS IIII] PP, SC in field.
