Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Lucilla; daughter of the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180, and wife to her father’s co-emperor, Lucius Verus, AD 164-169. The back of the coin depicts Pietas, the female personification of dutifulness. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 164-169.
Obv: Draped, bare-head of Lucilla, facing right. Obv inscription: [LVCI]LLAE AVG [ANTONINI AVG F]. Rev: Pietas, standing front, head left, extending her right hand over an altar and holding a box of perfumes in the left. Rev inscription: [PIETAS], SC in field.
