Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 161-180. The back of the coin depicts Mars, the Roman god of war. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 164-165.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and laureate bust of Marcus Aurelius, facing right. Obv inscription: M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG ARMENIACVS PM. Rev: Mars, in military dress, standing right, holding a vertical spear in his right hand and resting his left hand on an oval shield set on the ground. Rev inscription: [TR POT XIX] IMP II COS III, SC in field.
