Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 161-180. This coin depicts Marcus Aurelius as Caesar (Crown Prince), a position he held under Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161. The back of the coin depicts Spes, the female personification of hope. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 158-159.
Obv: Bare head of Marcus Aurelius, facing right. Obv inscription: AVRELIVS CAES ANTON AVG PII F. Rev: Spes, advancing left, holding a flower in her extended right hand and raising the hem of her dress with the left. Rev inscription: TR POT XIII COS II.
