The De Hornes were Quakers. Katherine's father Abraham (1762-1830) was a flour factor in Southwark and from 1794 lived in Surrey Square Southwark. Katherine (1789-1847) was the eldest daughter of seven children. She married Alfred Smith of Stanway, also a corn and flour factor, at the Friends Meeting House Croydon. They were also living at Surrey Square in 1824. See also 63.80 (Library) a diary written by Katherine's daughter Maria de Horne Smith when she was 16.
